K1/K2 races Rule 22)d) was removed in the middle of last year because of the effect it had on K2 races. It was erroneously still included in the handbook and should be deleted if you have not yet done so. Please pass this on to all coaches & paddlers who may have this year's handbook. The simple implication of this deletion is that during this season, there are no K2 races for crews that average more than 3_3.
Rule 28) a) would still allow a Div 2 paddler to race in a 3_3 race with a Div 4 or lower paddler and so on.
This has an implication for the races offered by organisers. Rule 22)c)i) & ii) cover the classes to be offered and Rule 24) should be taken in the context of them.
Amalgamation Rule 27 explains the process of amalgamation in races with less than 3 boats and this is provided for by the HRM system (the Combine button) and should be reflected in the results. It effects club points and this is covered by Rule 30)e)iii). It does not necessarily effect what prizes a club chooses to offer. See also rule 29)
The implication of Rule 27) and the last sentence in Rule 30)e)ii) is that where Division 9 paddlers are involved, the amalgamation should be down to Division 9 or 9_9 to allow the application of full points.
Correct Division Rule 22)b) states that "club coaches are responsible for ensuring the ranking status of their paddlers." The implication of this, is that the promotion of a paddler of more than one division by the HRM system should be exceptionally rare. It is assumed that club coaches will have a method of doing this, using time trials, comparison to other paddlers of known rank in training and the use of the handicap system on page D1 of the handbook.
